  • Who is tuneboat for?

I’ve met a lot of people who say they want to write songs or learn an instrument but they never do it.

So many people are struggling to just start—and I haven’t found a solid resource to help them take that first step that builds momentum towards their goals.

So I decided to build it.

tuneboat is designed for people who want to make music, but don’t know where to start.

Music is a universal language. No matter who you are, you can communicate with anyone in the world through music.

It’s a beautiful, mysterious, and powerful thing. It’s difficult to explain how music makes us feel sometimes—when words fall short, music fills the silence.

Everyone has the ability to learn to play and write music. For some people, it comes more naturally, and for others, it takes more time—but everyone can learn it.

You might be just starting your journey with music, or maybe you’re coming back to it after putting it on hold for many years, whatever the case, you’re ready to START.

Why I Want to Help You.

Since I was a young kid I always had an interest in learning to play drums. When I was 14 I finally saved up and purchased my very own drum set—it was an exciting day!

The guy I bought it from wanted to go to a good home, and I was happy to provide that home for it.

I set it up and started beating away at it—I thought it’d be easier. I was a little disappointed with how difficult playing drums actually is.

Instead of giving up I just practiced almost every day.

With the insights and support of other musicians and friends, I persisted at learning drums, and year by year I slowly got better.

I still play drums almost every day and they are one of my favorite instruments.

Maybe you’re like I was as a kid—you want to learn music but you’re frustrated with how difficult it is to learn.

I’ve been there. I know what it’s like to be discouraged and doubt if I’ll ever improve.

It took some time, but I made it through, and now I want to help you do the same. I want you to experience the joy of playing and writing music—because there’s nothing like it.

    We All Need Encouragement.

I used to teach guitar lessons, and one thing I noticed is that even though my students could go pick up their guitar at home and teach themselves, most of them didn’t.

They could learn how to play guitar without me, but their passion to learn guitar without encouragement and support wasn’t strong enough for them to actually sit down and practice.

They attended lessons with me not because they needed information about how to play the guitar, but because they needed encouragement and support to take action and be consistent.

In the same way, I’m here to encourage and support you. I know you can find a lot of information about learning to play, write, and record music online, but it can be difficult to find someone to cheer you on while you learn.

I want to be your cheerleader.

What is your biggest challenge with learning music right now?

“I’ve got a lot of dreams to achieve, and I hope someone can cheer me on as I’ll cheer them on in their dreams.” -Hunter Hayes

  • Welcome to tuneboat

A place for musical inspiration, insight, and exploration.

This blog exists to help you simplify your life and focus on creating and enjoying music. Whether you’re just getting into playing music or are a longtime musician, you are welcome here.

tuneboat can be summed up in two words: music and minimalism.

I want to help you find joy in simply creating—without all the clutter and distractions. Like setting sail on an exciting voyage, you can only bring so much with you. By bringing just essentials, you can focus on the grand adventure that awaits!

Before we set sail, I want to show you 5 ways this blog will help you on your journey:

    1. Give you encouragement.

The most important thing I can give you is encouragement. It has been said that encouragement is like oxygen for our souls—it provides the life-force we need for creativity to flourish.

Yet, it seems like an increasingly rare thing to find today. With so much content being produced some people have become very judgmental and negative, and they’ll make it a point to speak their minds.

One negative comment can ruin our day, but two kind words can restore it. We need twice as much encouragement as the negative talk and thoughts we hear. Unfortunately, negativity weighs heavier than positivity on our psyche.

We get torn down enough, let’s build each other up instead. I believe we can’t receive too much encouragement—the more we get, the more it overflows out of us and spreads to everyone around!

    2. Help you find your why.

In the third most-watched TED Talk of all time, titled, Start With Why, Simon Sinek outlines the importance of knowing your why. He shows how leaders with the greatest influence throughout history all understood the why behind their movements.

Even if you’re not a prominent leader, knowing the reason that you do what you do is critically important for your success. It’s the compass that leads you to fulfill your dreams. Without knowing why we do things we can get derailed very easily.

It can take some time to find your why. That’s ok.

    3. Provide practical steps to propel you forward.

It’s great to know your why, but where do you go from there? Having clear action steps helps us start doing what we want to do, and it allows us to build momentum.

There’s so much information out there, but digging through all of it can be confusing and time-consuming. That’s why it’s so important to find coaches and mentors who will take us by the hand and lead us forward—even if it’s through a blog or a podcast.

Along with a weekly blog post, I’ll be sharing a weekly YouTube video, free resources, articles, and helpful books for your journey.

    4. Help you find your inspiration.

I’ve heard it said that great songwriters go looking for their inspiration instead of waiting for it to find them.

By proactively searching for inspiration we can find more of it.

I’m always looking for inspiration—whether through walks in nature, or talking with people—it’s out there. I want to share this inspiration with you and help you find even more of it in every area of your life.

Let’s curate our lives in a way that invites inspiration.

    5. Build consistency.

I will be consistent with writing every week to help you be consistent on your musical journey. Let’s do this together.

Two things lead to success in any area of our lives: consistency and patience. If we keep at it and don’t give up, eventually it’ll pay off.

Waiting until an idea strikes to start working on a creative project isn’t the most effective approach. Designing a routine and schedule for creativity is more productive. It might seem counter-intuitive, but it works.

    Let’s do this.

This is the beginning of something new.

It doesn’t matter how old you are, where you live, or how many people know you. There is creativity inside you. I want to help bring it out.

Let’s discover how to live simpler, more intentional lives, filled with creativity and music.

It’s time to set sail; there’s a place just for you on the boat—hop on board!

Thank you for joining me on this journey.
